How to copy or export a video transcript on iPhone or iPad

Bring the useful words from a recording into your notes or another app. Copy the saved transcript directly, or choose a text export when you need a file.

Start with a saved transcript

Open a video from Home or Search in VideoScript. If it has not been transcribed yet, process the video first. Full app access requires a subscription.

Review the transcript before sharing it. Speech recognition can miss names, punctuation or numbers, especially when audio is unclear.

Copy the transcript to another app

  1. Find the Transcript section

Open the video’s detail page and scroll to Transcript.

  2. Tap the copy control

Use the overlapping-pages icon beside the Transcript heading. With VoiceOver, it is labeled Copy transcription. This copies the full saved transcript, including when you are searching within it.

  3. Paste where you need it

Open an app such as Notes, tap a text field and choose Paste. Copying text does not itself share the video file.

If you want a summary instead, use the separate copy control beside Summary. A summary is shorter AI-generated text, not the full transcript, and may be unavailable on unsupported devices or languages.

Share text or save a file

  1. Open Share and export

Tap the share icon in the video detail toolbar. Choose the saved content you want under Content and select a Format: plain text or Markdown. The available content choices depend on what the video has saved.

  2. Check the preview

Read the preview so you know which text will be included. Exporting a summary instead of a transcript changes what you share.

  3. Choose your destination

Use Share text to open the system share sheet, or Export file to save a .txt or .md file using the system file picker. Choose the destination and confirm.

What gets shared?

The text export shares the selected saved text. It does not attach the source video or change the original in Photos. Any service you send the text to handles that copy under its own settings and policies.

Check for private names, addresses or other sensitive information before sending a transcript. Copying to the clipboard is separate from exporting a file, and any device-level clipboard sharing depends on your Apple settings.

If there is nothing to copy or export

Check that the video has a saved transcript. If processing failed or was interrupted, read the explanation in detail and retry or resume when offered. A missing AI summary is separate from the transcript.

If an export fails, the app keeps the saved text. Try again or use the copy control. For further help, visit VideoScript Support.
